Black & Veatch has, over the course of decades, made it known that layoffs are preferred and billing to overhead is absolutely not allowed because employee training is viewed as a sunk cost. The irony is that it is only a sunk cost BECAUSE of... read more

Topics regarding layoffs at Black & Veatch
At B&V I was part of a team where management was utterly out of touch and lacked the training and social skills required to be true leaders and supportive of their employees. Often times we were spoken down to by them when we didn’t know how to do... read more
I’ve been waiting for any improvements to happen at BV for a long time now. Seriously, getting tired of the insular mindset of management who refuse to be open to any form of change even if it will benefit the company! Feedback is not welcome... read more
I was just contacted by someone that the Mgt Consulting group let go. He says there are many others. True? How many?
Do you know what the plans are as it relates to 2017 layoffs? Please post any updates you may have.
I worked at BV for several years. Their entire telecom division is a mismanaged disaster, that is always a few steps away from falling off of a cliff. Water is a slowly sinking ship. And only their Energy group seems to have their heads screwed on... read more
BV has been known to virtually steal information from contractors as well as make promises only to put them at the top and force changes that only benefit themselves. Why do they say one thing yet do another? I really wish someone would make an... read more
Sounds like dozens being laid off in OVERLAND pARK Kansas, bURR rIDGE Illinois, AND IN Michigan. Where else? Employees being walked out of the buildings on 1-12/1-13/ 1-14 2015.
The truth is it's probably more than 2%. They can't lay off more than 25 every two weeks from one location because it has to be reported to the state labor boards, and than gets press attention in the business section of newspapers. BV is REALLY... read more
Confirming layoffs in Water Division - things will get worse. I did hear that some management positions are B&V will be eliminated too...
Management enacted mass layoffs of 2% of the Water Division (no management jobs lost that I am aware of) and then recently rolled out salary increases and bonuses to everyone. Wow. This company is terrible. Hope their clients find out.
All KC project controls laid off!
How is the work atmosphere here? Is pay and benefits good? Should I low-ball my salary or just state what I want?
Does anyone know the current total employee count for B&V?
How deep are the cuts?
More layoffs in Federal Services, the slow bleed continues!
Just wanted to throw this out there. Black & Veatch company stock has risen 9% over the second quarter of '13. This beats the S&P Energy, Telecom, and Water indices COMBINED by THREE TIMES! They are getting stock performance by lay-offs, NOT by... read more
Another round of layoffs started a week ago - ladies and gentlemen, tighten the seat belts
7/30/13: Second wave of layoffs at the Federal Services Division! Again at the end of the month. Again, NOT PERFORMANCE BASED!
The founders of the company and the old guard used to care about the people, now it is just about profit!
Based on what is posted here, and what I know of Black and Veatch, Either: Management is stupid; They would allow poor performing employees to work for years and years without correction. OR... Managment is callous;Lays off people with lots of years... read more
I agree! I know many of the laid off people. They were great people and good at their jobs, really 37 years, 24 years, 22 years, 8 years, 6 years, 3 years, etc. these were loyal, hard working, dedicated people. I fear that more people will be laid... read more
While I am glad to see that Black and Veatch has a cheerleader who comes here to stick up for them, the truth is, most of the people who were laid off were great long term employees. Most were not performance based. None of those laid were assisted... read more
being around for 20 years does not imply one does not have performance issues
These layoffs were NOT PERFORMANCE RELATED! You do not keep someone for 20 years if they are poor performers. Many of these people were long term employees. Last one hired first to go does not apply here. Long term high salary people were let go.
Black and Veatch treats each division as a business unto it self. What that means is when one group is down on work, this time the Federal Services Division, employees do not get absorbed into other divisions that are doing well. There may be 300... read more
i heard that only poor performers were let go - can someone confirm?
These were not performance based layoff, almost all were great long time employees,
Regardless of what is posted, they laid off people on Monday, people with 22 yrs, 30+ years, etc. these people are allowed to apply for any of those jobs, but they will be considered new hires. If they would have been given the heads up, they could... read more
317 jobs posted on the careers site - bv is hiring
6/24/13 Federal services lays off 3% of employees. They said they attempted to place people in other divisions, but they did not. We were told we were free to apply for other jobs, but would be treated as new hires. Many laid off people had over 20... read more
Mrs Brady - just look at BV.com - there is a big banner saying WE ARE HIRING - all layoffs are performance based and can be considered regular firings and not layoffs. I am in SoCal and we added at least dozen folks recently.
Lay-offs continue in the water division and elsewhere. I know of at least 40 in the last 2 months, from the east coast to the west coast.
Still bad - still laying off folks, dont come here...
I am with Foster Wheeler AG - we are in the same boat. I was checking out this page hoping that you may be in a better position (you never know, my resume is ready)
Many layoffs this quarter. Industry not doing great.
There are under-the-radar layoffs going on in the Federal Division. Looks like the old engineers going first.
