Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Wheatstone is in more trouble than Gorgon imo.

I am rotating out of Wheatstone and it is a disaster. We did not plan or understand work flow and the modules have arrived late and laydown yards are being built to accommodate a "rush" to get things built. Bechtel who is the main contractor has told Chevron management over and over of the problems which they ignore. Late April they cut off the workers from going into town because a few got drunk and one urinated outside. They were truly a prisoner at the site. And the little town of Onslow business's bought new bus's to nmmet Chevron standards expanded there operations and then bang Chevron said no one into town. They are pissed to the point you can't go in as a Chevron employee. Chevron announced it has to hire an additional 2,000 workers for the fad yard. They came out they were building rec rooms, a restaurants etc. When you see the actually buildings it is way way under scale. Then On Monday the said they will double bunk the employees. These are not the normal double bunk. They had a demo on location and I would sleep about anywhere except those modules. I am relatively tall 6'3" and I could not stretchout in the bed. They are caskets. I hate the unions as they whine and whine. But this whole fiasco is very valid and they cried wolf way to long for it to be taken seriously. Bechtel is now predicting a strike vote and work stoppage for the project just like Gorgon. They are putting it in there plans to see alternatives if the strike happens. My counterpart at Bechtel has been working these huge projects for 35 years. He said he has never seen a more disconnected, and blind leadership team. If you look at the overall project Gant chart production will not roll till 2018 not the end of 2016 as Chevron is indicating. Maybe they know something that the entire project team does not. Melody Meyer is one of the few good leaders at Chevron. She has way to many bone heads below her.

I'm glad you like Melody. Just know that she's a greedy bitch for both herself and anyone who works for her. She's truly one of the entitled few who can never be told no to when it comes to her compensation or that of anyone who works for her that she likes. Shareholders be damned and workers be damned she's going to get hers.

Gorgon and Wheatstone are two mega-scale LNG projects that will go down in history as the most mismanaged undertaking in American history.

Both Gorgon and Wheatstone are large LNG projects in Western Australia aimed at providing high demand natural gas energy to Asian markets.

The Gorgon and Wheatstone are the company's #1 and #2 Major Capital Projects. These are are largest projects EVER for Chevron and are among the WORLD's largest projects as well. These two LNG projects started 5 years ago, and were at the time, Chevron's prized gem projects that was supposed to be huge cash cows. Well, that was before billions in cost overruns, delays, currency disparity, labor disputes, and the big drop in oil prices came along. These two projects are very complex undertakings and the long time range it was going to take to complete them put them wide open for risks. The perfect storm came along and hit us with Gorgon completion at about 90% and Wheatstone at 65% (so they claim). We are way too far into it to stop. Chevron must complete them and must now rob Peter to pay Paul.

How can you work for Chevron and not know "what Wheatstone & Gorgon are supposed to do?"

Gorgon is the largest natural resource project in the world and Wheatsone is not far behind. They are LNG plants. Yes, we will make some sort of profit on both but not anywhere near what we though at FID.

Can someone explain to me, in layman's terms, what Wheatstone & Gorgon are supposed to do? Are we going to make back our investment?

by | Post ID:

I sense Anon130793 is saying something that is very plausible. The company is hoping for Gorgon to come online before having to admit that Wheatstone has run out of funding. If oil prices continue below $55 for the remainder of this year, bank on it... this announcement will be made.

by | Post ID:

It's obvious. Anyone with any field construction experience can look at the Wheatstone pictures being published and easily tell you that motherf* isn't anywhere close to 65% complete.

If what you say is true, this is some laughable shit, man.

I am the original poster and that was exactly what was the undertone on Wheatstone. Thanks for the feedback.

This has been whispered in the halls of Houston and San Ramon for awhile. They don't want a new ESAR or CSRA because they know the results will be very bad. They are hoping to have Gorgon online before Wheststone runs out of funding.
