You nailed it. Seagate is pretty much the "Borg" from Star Trek fame. Whatever essence of innovation that exists in these acquisitions will be wiped out. Like you said. People are things to throw away for them, so these businesses will fail. The patents are the wrong focus. It's the people you acquire that have the true value, but they throw them away.

Dot Hill was a "blocking" move Xyratex MADE the dothill product previously, Former CEO and XY board member was on the board at DotHill too, makes you go hmmmmmm.
Seagate is "patent sitting" and IP mining. to hedge against competition which is smaller more nimble and more progressive.
When you cannot innovate, and create from within, you buy the tech / IP not so much to come out with new product, but to block others from playing in your sandbox while you lurch and stumble along.
Xyratex employees, LSI/Sandforce, and Evault employees were told this was a merger and promised MANY things, verbally that were never to come to be.
Mass layoff along with a major company purchase, to be followed by more layoffs, guaranteed as this time of year it traditionally slow in the enterprise, and HDD's ain't gonna pick up the slack
'cause holiday sales are expected to be dismal in the consumer market due to the economy and the huge upswing of flash and portable "disposable" computing.
Really? Differentiate yourself and stay on your game; bank on yourself with current skill sets and large job opportunities to leave at any second like a mercenary. If worse comes to worse; there's severance. Unlike a HP er Hates People corporation getting out of severance, paying out PTO and other options.
Should you be paranoid to the point it impacts your ability to work? No, it only hurts yourself and the company's margins proving that layoffs are needed. As is, Dothill has a profit margin that will give an estimated 240 million profits yearly -> this is long term growth; it will open to a world wide market for future sales and in reverse, Seagate benefits with new channel partners. Tons of layoffs happen and can occur but if it's coming, at the end of the day; someone has to support the products, it won't disappear overnight so think positive (we the drones can only choose to see how this might turn out)
Side note: of course I'm paranoid! It's a key to success in the IT world; and I'm even more skeptic every time I read emails -> HR is soul-less...
Nobody would like to demoralize you until lay off day. After merger they will cut 50% employees of dothill. Seagate just want dothill patents, so they don't care for employees
That's funny they said 95% of people at Dot Hill were staying....
They wouldn't lie would they....
dot hill and xyratex will be made one. The "duplicates" will be eliminated first.
I am also thinking in the same line
