Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I am flabbergasted that I got a VSP email today. I have time to decide but confused on why they are letting me go.

I guess I will probably take it since doing good here is pointless.

Since when is indian female a URM? I agree women as a whole may be URM but no indian should be URM theyre everywhere

I am a manager 2 yrs ago I had to give vsp messages to 2 employees because of ratings they got before they worked for me. Neither took it. Both have since been promoted and earned exceeds ratings. Neither was forced out later because they didn't take the package that was offered. If you want to stay. Then stay. Success is still possible

I'm confused that you're confused that they are letting you go. A VSP is NOT letting you go. The V in VSP = VOLUNTARY. You have a choice unlike those with ISPs.

: you mentioned Honeywell, check them out before you go there, ask employees, etc. It might be a big change from Intel....you're going to be chasing after "charge numbers" for ever, with no raises, promotions, etc. Most good jobs outsourced also....

-- My advice is don't take it. Like other posters have said, Intel casts a wide net for voluntary 'separation packages. Key word is voluntary. The posters who say you are 'one step from being laid off have zero official info saying that is the case. Remember, after this is over, this action affects 12% of Intel employees, which leaves 88%. Don't feed into the hysteria. You look to be a solid performer, so if you want to stay, stay!!

which I assume is the OP. Don't take it in May, Take it when you get a job offer or few days before your first day in the new company. Make sure you use all your vacation days too.

This does not only keep the paychecks coming but also give you the ability to say "I'm still working at Intel" when you apply for new jobs.

I have been with the company for right at 4yrs. My last focal was EE. Is that considered to long at pay level? Way to rush to judegment. If 4yrs at 55 is too long then they need to fire my whole shift.

Take it while the job market is not saturated with ex-Intel guys. If you wait you'll get laid off next year into a bad job market.

hi, here...contrary to what many people think, Hispanic is not considered a URM category at Intel so that would not have been considered in this case...the URM categories Intel looks at are African American, Native American/Alaskan, Asian and Indian FEMALE TECH. Asian and Indian MALE are not considered URM either.

I have decided to take it All though I am going to wait until May to sign the acceptance so I don't get walked today. I need to break it to my wife. I was told be my GL that my area is heavy and this offer is no way reflecting my work here. I was seriously hoping to be one of the names listed under 25yrs someday. This type of thing is very confusing. I will work on submitting my resume. I hear honeywell, broadcom, and Raytheon are hiring.

I agree with -iph. I have slept better in the past year since leaving than I have in more than a decade. On the flip side, since you said that you are Hispanic, you have a leg up on the Caucasians. You have that built in security blanket knowing that if you get an S at focal next year, they would still need to fire thousands of OWGs before they get around to you. You do have some hope if you want to stay. It's really only the OWGs who have no hope at all, no matter their contribution or how well they perform. Good luck with your decision. I know it's not easy to choose.

WOW! So you got offered VSP even with an EE??? Okay, that's something new that wasn't in the threads. And no, Intel is not terming you. If you decline the offer you stay. VSP is "Voluntary Separation", Intel is incentivizing you to leave, but if you don't want to then you stay with no guarantee that you won't be offered to leave in the future or worse case, forced to leave under ISP (with your EE you don't meet the ISP this time around)

correct, don't take it too hard that you were offered VSP but DO seriously consider it. I posted on another thread, anyone getting a VSP offer need only ask yourself this question: Are you tracking for EE/O or promo in your deliverables right now? If you don't believe you will get EE/O or promo in Focal 2017 TAKE THE PACKAGE! These RIFs are not going to end, and that means that if you received VSP this year and your performance remains stagnant or declines then next year you will be eligible for ISP and ineligible for rehire. At least with VSP you can be hired back in the future. Just some perspective...but as someone who left after 15 years, I'm honestly the happiest I've ever been. Could not even imagine going back to Intel, just the thought gives me heart palpitations.

So your saying if I don't accept it I may get to stay? It seems very risky. I got 3 SSL all the yrs I have been here which is a,little over 4 now. I got EE this yr but still SSL 3. Not a white male. I am 32 year old Hispanic male.

Lots of people will get VSP. Intel has to give out lots of VSP because historically a low percentage of people taking it. Just because you got it doesn't mean Intel wants you to go. 2 years ago everyone in my organization got it.
