I'm guessing... this coming Friday will be the last day for most Penang Seagate employee. Penang Slider has been an efficient site with talents, billions of heads produced to sustain the company since the 90's. Plant closure decision was made by a VP who resided in Thailand with his Thai wife. No one should blame him as it's pretty normal for one to protect his own job. It's the naive CEO to empower a VP from Thailand to decide which site to close.

God bless all.

"Prayers with you guys. Just overheard one of the VPs taking about his new exotic car and his vacation in Europe. Oh Seagate..."

Clearly, Seagate management suits have their priorities in the proper place. Or, as my Seagate boss once said, "The seven Ps: Prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance."

My definition of being able to write 'decent' English sentences is the ability to formulate sentences without having to consult Google translate to translate Chinese words to English or correcting the spelling during each email communication. 'A' for effort but that does not qualify as being able to write proper English. You wanna bet majority or at least a large group of Malaysian workers in Seagate do not do that?

When it comes to speaking, don't even bother to argue. Only a handful could articulate words correctly and clearly.

Though I must agree, those who F'ed up big time are the ones in the States. Chinese, majority being the engineers suffered the brunt.

All this negative comment does not do any good to anyone. One think I noticed after moving from KL to work In Penang,

1) There is no diversity or equity practiced here.

2) English is not the business. You only hear Chinese language where ever you go

3) MNC leaders widely practicing racism and it seems like a business norm

4) They also comment that only SJKC and UTAR students are great and students from Government universities must have tempered with their results since they are close to their lectures...

Day in day out, hearing the same thing and its sad to say that I am working in a such a negative environment. Hard work should pay off and valued not the color of your skin nor your religion. If you are getting everything easily without hard work and equal fight please be ashamed of it and do not boast around....

If you foreigners (white supremacist) are going to use this forum to judge the level of English for Malaysians (especially of Chinese descent), then, you used the wrong benchmark. Some of us - especially foreign educated ones who went to your country to get university degrees - can speak better English than you guys. Just that forums are supposed to be informal, and therefore the level of English correspond to the standard "expected" of a forum. Try to correspond with us using official work emails on official matters and we will see a huge discrepancy in the level of English used.

By the way, ain't majority of the management teams made up of white f----ts? These are the ones that caused the current mayhem that has a wide repercussions across the world.

Back in 2014, the main tagline is that hard disk demand is expected to climb exponentially across the coming years...hahaha - what a joke...

by | Post ID:

Those who think Malaysians especially Chinese Malaysians cannot speak or write English do not know Malaysia. English is widely used in Malaysia and I can assure you Chinese Malaysians who work in Seagate speak and write good English.

by | Post ID:

your statement applies for all sites in Asia. None of the sites can speak and write proper English. I'm pretty sure Thailand and China sites are much worse.

Majority of worker in Malaysia is Chinese. Chinese over there is naive and ignorant. They can't even speak proper English.

I am waiting with bated breath to see how Korat runs the slider operation to the ground alongside the demise of J.N. Then, we will know how "ready" they are.

Even INTEL reduce workforce worldwide.. Had wishes to work with them but now they also affected by the PC demand slowdown..

Nice summary by some. Wish got the chance to work with you guys.

The people in Xyratex have been working there for close to twenty years. The reason their salary may be higher is because they had better incentives under Xyratex than Seagate's crappy benefits.

If only the shareholders would have not sold the shares at that point, we would have survived as we had a bigger customer market than we have now.

Even Oracle does not want to do business because we carry your crappy name.

Don't forget Seagate Ipoh close down on 2001..

by | Post ID:

Seagate Johor Senai sell to Beyonics on 2008

Seagaet closed down Limavady Ireland on 2009

Seagate bough over Xyratex and call Seagate Serembam, close by March 2017

Seagate Skudai Media plant had retrench 4 staff (IT manager, IT senior manager, HR exeucite, another 1x unknown), however they wont close this plant as it neat to woodland seagate plant.

Seagate also won't close down Thailand plant.

The reason they close down seremban plant is due to the plant is doing testing equipment for WD and Seagate itself, where this machine is no need anymore in the market. One more thing is that, Seremban plant people having high salary compare to other company in Seremban area

by | Post ID:

IT Share Resource Center (SRC) and HR Central still in Penang. They should layoff all these cheap labours.

by | Post ID:

Confirmed . News link here but you need to google translate it, is in mandarin .

by | Post ID:

Because SJKC are stupid and only know how to work and cannot talk. American loves people that can talk, not work. Just look at Silicon Valley, its dominated by 30% Indians

Malaysia alway become victims of Seagate retrenchment exercises. What the hell?
