I do not want to be laid off - nobody wants it. Yet, there are many rumors about potential job cuts here in San Jose.

The latest layoff rumor. Major Layoffs are planned for October. The rumor is 10% of the work force mostly from US. With 7 consecutive quarters of declining revenue it's the only way to make Wall Street expectations. Plus Cisco knows that Wall Street has a lower expectation right now so Cisco Executives are taking advantage of big changes aka layoffs.
Sad I was employee number 1446 at Cisco loved it back in the 90's made a ton of money and everyone wanted to be one of us. Now all I hear is how much of a meat grinder it has become. I look back at what was a great company and see a shadow of former greatness. Generations are different, work ethic very different and it is showing. High techs foolish craze with youth is killing it. No C level wants to listen to a mid -twenty something fresh out of college tell them what they should be doing in their business, that takes some gravity which only comes with long experience and understanding, No MBA teaches that but like all the greats before (DEC, UNISYS, Avaya, Nortel) Cisco, DELL EMC, NETAPP, Juniper are all going down the same path and becoming commodity players. Just lookout ACI what a joke. SDN is still years away the whole industry is one big ponzu scheme now that enriches only those at the very top. The days of 1M a year sales reps ( yep at two) are gone.
Cisco + Summer = layoffs its been going on for 7 + years. The leadership team was 80% excellent and now only 20% . My VP was worthless and is still there with no direct reports. But she laid off good people. The channel leadership is at a all time low. With ego maniac Hill running around acting like king Joffrey. Glad I dont have to deal with people like that. Cisco was great because of the people but the people in charge now only care about themselves.
I'm a US recruiter seeking a Senior Director of sales - background in the satellite/telecom market is a good fit. Cisco people who sold products from the former NDS would be great. Contact me via Linkedin for more details.

As of last week more layoffs
As pf last week more layoffs
Rumor is Cisco is going to LR about 8% of it's staff due to lower than expected performance in Q3. Since Q3 is not reported yet won't know the final numbers until the report to Wall Street. Cut's have already begun but very point focused on groups.
Real issue w/ Cisco is that the Executive Staff is so worried about Wall Street they are incapable of making decisions without the input of Bean Counters. The company is ran by Accountants and that is where companies begin to falter.
It will be an interesting next few weeks as Cisco tries to figure out how to realign resources to keep the business solid and keep it that way w/o taking good employees away from those business processes while still trying to hit the metrics set forth by the accountants. It's a $$$ game, they must cut out (x)$$$ to make Wall Street happy to prevent them from downgrading their stock recommendation.
It's going to be interesting to say the least.
Look up things here, we do layoffs every year - think twice before joining
I am planning to join Cisco.. is it safe to join or is it gonna be more layoffs?
More to come after Cisco's year end
250 in LWR sounds surprisingly high - who can confirm or deny?
I heard 250 people in Atlanta/Lawrenceville (VSS group) got affected.
Just got my termination may 8th termination date with 3 months of base salary pay.
There was a confirmed LR today. Anyone have locations / numbers that were affected?
I just got my official layoff notice, 3 month severance is what is being offered
Heard the same date. How many?
confirmed that March 9 2017 is the official date for LR notices, I was told I'm on the list
Completely useless repeat post that layoffs might possibly happen maybe. Check
Followup that old people are the only people who can do real work. Check
Followup that Cisco is going out of business. Missing
Followup abject racist commentary. Missing
Come on people, you only know how to cut and paste and now you can't even do that well.
March 9, 2017 is the date. You are not good with the manager, you will be thrown out.the package will be lower than before. That is the rumor.
if you donot want LR then join or move to BU team where they waste money in innovations and some managers take money to promote and u will be taken care for years n years. if you are from language region then no one can touch you. just learn how to fool managers is * BU team.
There is an engineer in our team who begs for award to each employee n fool manager, do that way.
now in cisco, mgr pulse survey is taken out so full power. enjoy. People just edit and pass results in our team and gets promoted. so u r not following what mgmt needs in cisco.
cisco is now laying off Grade-12s and replacing them with bulk Grade-6 and 7s Millenials
trouble is millenials can only tweet and do videos, have no engg. skills
10% LO is likely after Q2
AS is not immune to cuts. Lots of people let go in the last round which was a first for my area.
Question is which ones to be axed, cloud (CIS/CVG/Meta cloud), IoT, NFV, smart cities or older hardware route/switch platforms ? AS is still hiring it seems and From what i hear now there is a mandate to use ACI within Cisco even when internal teams do not like using it. So i believe ACI/Insieme/AS are still immune to cuts, however rest is a fair game.
Cisco needs to cut expenses. Either thru another round of layoffs or defunding of programs. There are a lot of programs that will need serious cash in q3/4 to get thru the pro type stage. I'd expect 50% of these to be axed or put on hold
That's right, 10 years or more without significant progression suggests you might be institutionalised. Speak to any recruiter and they will tell you this. The perfect term is 3-6 years at the most.
I was impacted in September. After one interview with another company, the interviewer told the recruiter that she was concerned that for somebody who has spent so much time at Cisco would have a lot of trouble adapting to a new culture. I had heard a large number of years spent at Cisco is viewed in a negative light by prospective employers.
GlassDoor is now a propaganda piece for HR.
I'd love a payout to be honest. So sick of the politics of this place but hesitant to leave without a golden handshake after 10 years here. I'd be so annoyed if some of my buds got it and I'd already left.
Cisco's weak Q2 forecast is an early warning where cisco may have cut some headcount's to match the number before fiscal Q2 financial results. Expect few headcount reduction just before second quarter results.
Its all rumor guys! There will be no more LO's at cisco! We are cisco family... I believe in the ELT! on 3 guys... 1..2..3.. ELT.. ELT... ELT...
Nobody wants to get LR-ed? Have you even been reading the posts on this forum? I wanted to leave and got LR-ed. Very happy about that. I know other long timers who are still there and are desperate to leave but want the package. They are seriously hoping for more cuts in 2017, or maybe early retirement option.
Cisco has a full time "sweeper" on the Glassdoor forums. Some flunkie from HR running interference with excuses and rationalizing about the constant LRs and morale decay.
Funny you mention Glassdoor. So did Chuck Robbins. That's a clue as to how Glassdoor works. G.D. has changed from a few years ago when it was very straight. There's something fishy about it now. Now I don't trust anything I read on GD about any company.
The old Cisco is gone. Sorry to break the news to you.
Take a look at the images and stories on the CEC home page and on Glassdoor and have that paint a picture for you. The marketing tells the story, in every human-interest story and in every picture:
A gaggle of smiling 20 something's in t-shirts doing a group limbo or a massive selfie at work
All of them a mix of multi racial, good looking kids with an equal number of men and women
Random story about how some salesguy saved up all his PTO so he could climb some peak in Nepal and put a Cisco flag on it
A catchy story about how we are going to be the TESLA of IoT, Smart Cities, (insert shiny object here) and rule the world
It is all rather transparent, somewhat desperate and sad. Maybe I'm just bitter about where we are now and I'm seeing stuff that doesn't exist. Maybe not.
I'd take one. It's a shame they don't offer voluntary redundancy.
Rumors are all the time. Layoffs are part of cisco's dna.
So leave it, or stop xorrying about rumors.
And if you get better job outside cisco then go!
