I started drawing my pension last November, after I was laid off in Feb. 2016. Today I tried to use my discount card, and it wouldn't work. Do I lose my discount when I start drawing my pension, or is this because of the changing of the discount to points? I read on this forum that Retirees' discount would not change. Does anyone know the answer?

Name in James Hutchins, I retired in 1996 from sears, today I bought 4 new tires that cost 492.00 dollars, I couldn,t find my employee discount card, , so I didn,t get my discount, person said once the slip is printed I couldn,t come back with my card and get my discount, I would like to know why, invoice —770115 .
Thats why not even its own employees want to shop at Sears. Ever since they got rid of the discount I don't support their credit card I stopped using it. I use my own credit card to pay things I am not going to support them at all at this rate. Sad how corporate and higher ups keep the sweet benefits, but us lower tier that manage the store don't get crap.

A person in HR at Hoffman Estates told me today that retirees keep the same discounts that they had while they were active except that they get money off instead of points. She also sent me the two page explanation of associate discounts.
You discount depends on what part of the company you work(ed) for. Corporate employees get the best options: stores, auto centers (attached and detached), carpet cleaning, etc.. Call center employees get the same thing as corporate. If you work in commercial sales you don't get a discount at any auto center or with of the home services. People who are in the trenches, dealing face to face with the angry public, the folks at the full line stores get screwed over at their auto center if it happens to be in a separate building.
This auto center thing really irritates me (if couldn't tell by my previous posts). If I was willing to drive fifteen miles to another Sears, I could get my discount on tires.
Thanks Sears for giving it to me up the backside again. First you cut my pay nearly 40% by slashing my commission rates. Now I'm screwed on my discount. I don't need large appliances, I don't need tools, I don't like Sears' clothing, and now I have no reason to go to the Auto Center.
I retired after ten years. No pension because that plan was killed shortly after I started :-(. However, when I went to use my discount it didn't work. I contacted HR in Hoffman Estates and was told that my store manager had coded my departure as a "resignation" and not "retirement." Incompetence? Direction from corporate to screw with people? Not sure but the latter makes sense.
Rock, as much as I don't want to defend Sears, their water heater prices are not bad if you look at a few things. I shopped at Home Depot and found that they did not offer a water heater with a nine or twelve year warranty. At least they didn't have one on display. Installation was at least double what Sears charges. No one at Home Depot knew anything about installation, I had to call an 800 number. The installer would not bring the water heater, it had to be delivered separately and the install would make an appointment, which means no same day install.
Also, according to AO Smith, the company that makes most of the private label water heaters, Kenmore water heaters have technology that their other brands don't have.
At my store, we used to sell tons of water heaters and for years, they were in the tool department because of space constraints. A few years back, they made room in appliances and moved water heaters there. Water heater sales fell like a rock. Why? People came in, look in tools for water heaters, didn't see them and left. I said, "We need to put a sign up where water heaters have been for decades that says, 'Water heaters are now downstairs in appliances.'" I was mocked by management for having such a stupid idea. Of course, our managers had still been in high school when I started with Sears but what could I know.
Thats what I been saying I needed a water heater and even when I still had the discount it was still overpriced. I don't know why people buy at Sears at times, but majority of the time their prices higher than its competition. Now they are slapping you that the discount doesnt work you owe nothing to them if your going to save money just do it!
For some stupid reason, I never got my discount at the auto center because it is detached, that is in a building separate from the store. I had always been told that retirees got the discount. Now I'm retired and I'm tol no discount and no extra points, no nothing. I used to get stuff done to my car at sears because it was convenient. Now, no convenience and no discount. Why the heck should I give Sears another buck?
There is a special logic build into what we are trying to do. If you do not understand that then it is your fault as an employee not us in corporate who come up with the ideas that make your life harder and have no basis in store level reality. We are trying to give you the same experience as the member. That experience is frustration, long waits, confusion as to the SYW program, bad customer, ops sorry, member service, hassle to sign up for SYW, give e-mail address, coupons that don't work or have so many exclusions that no one understands and now the new 5-3-2-1 credit card, which gives you all sorts of rewards if you can understand the exclusions. If you do not understand how we are transforming SHC into a page in the history books of retail then you do not understand a "Simple" concept like retail.
The bottom line is we are out to lose as many customers as possible while alienating any potential customers, use and abuse our employees and basically be the biggest retail disaster in history. We will neglect stores until they are a hazard to our employees as well as customers. We will talka about our associates embracing change and technology as long as that technology is from the 1990'a and the change gives us job security because it looks like we did something to justify our employment.
All of this leads to mounting loses, mounting debt, loss of value and Get on board and "Own it" or find another job or place to shop.

We're told to link our discount card number with our Shop your way account. Did that and guess what? No 20 percent points with my purchase on Saturday. Called shop your way and what was the response from a supervisor? "There's no associate discount anymore and you earn points like any other member." So it's clear one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Told my SM about it and he said to wait a week and contact them again because the same thing happened to him!
I read that retirees still receive their discount.
They probably haven't figured out yet how to make them log into 88sears and link their info to their SYW accounts.
10% off puts the price in line with others at regular price. When I left, I started buying stuff at Lowes and Home Depot.
I thought retirees retained the dollar off discount? I read it somewhere on the Sears site. Horrible if they went back on this!!!!
When we lost our discount, we all heard and read that retirees were grandfathered in for their lifetime discount. But, apparently, this was yet another lie from Fast Eddie. I lost a refrigerator sale to Home Depot today because a retired coworker's discount card didn't take any money off. HD was cheaper on the same appliance, and the retiree was ticked off enough to not want a price match. I don't blame her.
Why would you even go back and give Eddie your money? My job was eliminated March 2016 after 38 years and I have not set foot in a Sears or Kmart other than to return a Craftsman tool. I just recently purchased a new washing machine from HHGregg. I paid about $200.00 less and got it in a week. I have purchased new car batteries cheaper with a better warranty from Ford. I will never spend another penny in Eddie's stores. I now shop at all of Eddie's competitors which I never did when I was employed at Sears.

They removed the employee discount for employees and now give us extra points instead that expire after 60 days. They also made us link our shop you way account number to the employee discount and told us the cards will no longer be used. It sounds like that is what happened to you.
