Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

I share your pain

I was an Allstate employee for 24 years before having to retire due to a medical condition. During my tenure I was able to see many of the changes that happened at Home Office and I could see the writing on the wall for field techs and drive-in techs back when I was working on the "NextGen" system. Being in on many many meetings with senior managers, VP and SVP discussing how much this system was going to save Allstate I knew no matter what they said in public many people were going to loose their jobs in the next 5-10 years.

I talk with a few fellow leaders occasionally and all of us agree, Allstate lost its way about its employee's and became focused solely on increasing stock price so the few, powerful people in the glass tower can get richer while the front line employee has to hope for a 3% raise.

Back when I started with the company in 1990 they truly seemed like a company that cared about its employee's. When I notified my boss I was not coming back and had to retire, I was out on disability at the time, all I got was sorry to see you go this way. That's it. No dinner like many many prior 25 years plus employee's were given when they retired. People at Allstate, open your eye's. I can guarantee you that every Job is in jeopardy. AS the technology allows the company will build more large scale centralized operations that are in areas where the pay at the low end is still very good for that area. California I believe will become a state where not one claims person lives and works. It will all be done remotely. This used to be a great company that you wanted to stay with until you retired. Ever since Tom Wilson was made CEO and COTB it has gone down, at least for the employee's. Get your resumes up to date and start looking. Don't believe a word they say. I know as I sat in the secret meetings outlining the future. If they could have robots inspect cars they would do it now. It breaks my heart cause I gave my all for 25 years and now cover my mouth when someone asks where I retired from...

Allstate's culture is so toxic especially in IT. I can't stand this place. Rampant backstabbing especially the contractors here.

Clapping and giggling as layoffs happen. Don't drink the corporate kool-aid use reason and logic.

Doubt it, there was a town hall with Shapiro immediately before downloadbesttorrentblog.rus and nobody in northbrook had the balls to ask any meaningful questions. Just giggle and clap

Town Hall meeting with Tom Wilson on July 26th. Maybe somone will have the guts to ask him real questions about what is going on at Allstate.

I cant tell where most of you all are from or which offices you worked at, but one of the happiest days of my life was the day I left Allstate. We were always just numbers to them. Yes they did 'recognition' but you had to be a favorite and a kiss *** . Making customers happy got you nowhere in their eyes. Sorry for those losing jobs but Allstate is getting what they deserve

You are dead on. I started with Allstate in the 80's. It was a completely different company back then. They actually cared about their employees. I realize that with the advancement in technology, jobs will be sacrificed. However, the manner in which Allstate has done this layoff shows that they do don't care about their employees. I was fortunately able to retire after 30 years before the slaughter came. Feel so bad for my prior coworkers that became casualties of June 14th. Horrible. QFC is not going to work on all claims. Customers want to meet with an adjuster. I for one would be one of those customers. Taking my Allstate business elsewhere as I do not want to deal with any of the new claim processes which also treats the customer poorly. Shops already hate Allstate and this will make the environment even worse. Bad move by Allstate.

Calufornia has been losing money in auto for years. It would not surprise me if they eventually pull out completely. When people ask me where I used to work, I am embarrassed to tell them. Says alot.

Thanks for this post

Thank you for sharing! The Allstate of the old days seems like a fantastic place to work. I've noticed that everyone seems super cautious at the town hall meetings asking only the safe questions. No one dares to point out the negatives regarding their new technologies or dare to ask why there are so many layoffs if the company is doing so well. I've been updating my resume and searching for new opportunities.
