Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

From the words of your President

Good Afternoon,

I am very pleased to share with you the fantastic news that the acquisition of substantially all of EDMC’s assets by the Dream Center Foundation is nearly complete. This marks a new opportunity for our students to learn in a not-for-profit environment free from the challenges that have faced all of us over the last several years.

We remain on track to complete the sale of HLC- and Middle States-accredited schools in the next few months.

This is a very significant accomplishment. Many of you had a hand in bringing this transaction to a close. All of you will have roles to play in the success of Dream Center Education Holdings (DCEH). Since I arrived, I’ve been impressed with your dedication and desire to see students succeed. Because of that determination, The Art institutes, South University and Argosy University will continue graduating men and women who will make a difference in our world for years to come. Thanks to all of you.

Remaining EDMC faculty and staff now turn their attention to the important work of educating students at our teachout locations. As EDMC, we will ensure that they have the opportunity to graduate from their chosen programs. We take our commitment to them seriously and will continue providing them with the quality education they have come to expect.

I wish those of you becoming DCEH employees all the best. Your future is bright, and I know you will work to make it as dynamic and meaningful as it can be. Please be mindful of the information and updates that will be coming your way. Transitions such as this are challenging under normal circumstances, and the complexities of our organizational structure make it more so. Be patient, and expect some bumps along the way. If you think you may have missed any announcements, visit the EDMC-DCEH Transition Announcement Archives. You will find them all there.

As always, I thank you for everything you have done and will continue to do for our students.

Best regards,

Mark McEachen

EDMC President and CEO

Interesting how there has been no formal press that DOE agreed with the deal! Even if they do DReam Center will slice the dead weight.

What a joke this is. How many letters were sent out over the years and what always happens after? LAYOFFS. Yes it's coming my friends and I can't wait to see al the tears flowing and you fools pretending to be shocked. This is the best news yet.

"Bumps in the road" is telling. They know something that is going to piss everyone off. Just a matter of what is it? Salary? Hours? Benefits? Healthcare?

Omg, this letter sounds so convincing except for I was a student at a teach out campus and there was nothing exceptional about the experience of having one instructor teach the entire second half of my degree, and he wasn't qualified to teach all of the subjects and said so openly. It was a nightmare coming on campus daily to watch qualified instructors and other employees walking away with cardboard boxes and not knowing if the school would be open the following day. I would never, ever have enrolled had I known what would happen, but I got the degree and have the loans to pay back which I am, but, man, what a rip off. I went to a traditional university for my undergraduate work so I know what education looks like and what I got from EDMC was a degree, what I paid for and was promised was an education.

Not real.

It's been several months now since I was laid off. This letter McEachen just sent out reminds me of the cheery letter from corporate congratulating me for 18 years of service and looking forward to many more. I received the letter literally the day before I was let go.

I'm sure many of you have similar stories.

This was an e-mail sent to all current EDMC employees, so it, itself, is not bogus, but that doesn't mean what he's saying in the e-mail is not bogus.

Bogus post.... boring......zzzzzz

Yes employees. For over 100 years EDMC has been providing our students with quality education while we have simultaneously created more bad blood in the educational marketplace then could ever be imagined. Thus our well documented history of predatory student entrapment to rape their loan money coupled with endless litigation that has been the hallmark of of providing only pathetic graduation and retention rates and always for a king's ransom of debt for those who have been dumped by the wayside.

These are just a few of the, again, well documented facts that make Mark's statements so off the wal. This man's mischief is at the very least scary and at the very most implicit in the financial ruinment of tens of thousands of trusting students. If anyone at EDMC buys into his words you are probably more diabolical and demented than he is. Good luck in trusting in anything this person says. He is and as always been a default liar. As the saying goes, there has to be a very hot place in a dark corner of hell for this consumate glib tongued sociopath.
