Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

High School Kids...

We just hired 6 high school kids at my Kmart store. Boy howdy, they are annoying... They constantly talk to each other, take extended breaks, watch "videos" in the bathroom, and don't bother looking for anything when doing reshop. Two of them decided to go to McDonald's on their 15-minute break, and didn't come back for 55 minutes. Store manager said she wouldn't fire them because "I want to give them a chance." Do we really need to give "chances" to these kids who consstantly flood the employee's mens room with the urinal? Do we really need to give "chances" to these kids who TALK ON THEIR PHONE while ringing out customers?

Store manager won't fire them because they all family members, and it "would make it awkward" and because only 2 of the 6 drive. But who am I kidding? Our store manager looks the other way when the front-end lead purchases penny merchandise and other "damaged" merchandise, and rejected claims merchandise while she sells it on eBay. Hell, the ASM brings in her 12-year old daugter to help her organize layaways!

This thread makes me feel better. Our front end lead got PROMOTED to assistant manager after stealing money from both the registers and the cash room with the help of the former assistant manager who had to be reassigned to another store. He was reassigned for bad behavior. Both were caught on tape.

All kids are now days are a smartphone. Who did what on twitter, instagram, facebook. They don't care about a job or real life. Mommy and daddy will buy it. Or what happens in the real world. I remember when I started working at age 15. I had to work hard talk to people etc.

Just got the news that 2 of the kids no call/no showed over the weekend, and that the other kid is quitting. Very excited!

The only ones who ever seem to apply are minors who have all sorts of restrictions and need 20 breaks and can't ring restricted sales. Honestly most of them are useless. I hate working with high schoolers

That really makes me mad! My position as front end lead was eliminated several months back, I worked my a--off for this company. Then you have these front end leads who steal and don't work, makes me so upset.

OP here with an update: One of the kids rang up a $3,000 gift card transition on a stolen credit card! But guess what? They are keeping them!

And my co-workers all know darn well that if any other person did this, they would be terminated immediately... But these kids?

But no wonder they afford to fire anyone... No interviewed or applied during National Hiring Day. I guess we're forced to work with these kids until the store closes.

Good lord. I thought I was the only one who saw this kind of sh!t at work.

My former store had a front end lead who was giving blank merchandise return cards to members and keeping the real cards for herself. This went on for two years. It was quietly reported to loss prevention and two store managers. It stopped happening when a member went apeshit on her at the podium and she, in turn, called the member a b--ch. Store manager was on vacation so the floor supervisor and ASM covered it up.

Same front end lead also stole a gift card or two from one member who came into the store with 10 $50 Sears gift cards. She told the cashier to bring them to her to look at because someone having 10 gift cards was sketchy. I watched her palm one of the cards.

Ironically, her last day -- she quit to take a CSM job at Wal-Mart -- turned out to be the same day the local police were asking the store for security footage.

Shows you how bad this company has become. I had to put up with something similar, but instead of nepotism, it was kinda a racist thing. Where this girl just keep f---ing off from work but the store manger wouldn't fire her because she and him with both Mexicans and he wanted to "give her a chance".

She then continued to get away with it until she actually quit and I just heard he just got fired/re-assigned to another store. All in all, good riddance to both of them.
