Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

WFR Rules?

I know that if you are WFR'd from HPE you cannot work for them again (blackballed) - but can you apply/work for HPI?

"Plus, we get over-specialized in our jobs at big companies like HPE, and smaller companies want generalists, not specialists"

My job search since being laid off is proving that this observation is absolutely correct. Cloud computing seems to be driving this as a lot of small cloud companies are looking for candidates that can write/debug code and troubleshoot/fix hardware too. Mostly at half of the pay in my area of the country.

"I am living proof that you CAN get another high paying tech job in your city. And I was over-specialized and long in the tooth to boot. Better things await you."

For the benefit of everybody, can you please elaborate a bit on your particular scenario? Mainly, what area/location and what field of specialization? Thank You.

"Yes, I know... Just go get another job. Getting another well-paying job in tech in the same area (city) is next to impossible for some of us, and for family reasons, we can't move... So greeter at Walmart it is, then, I guess... (Plus, we get over-specialized in our jobs at big companies like HPE, and smaller companies want generalists, not specialists)."

While this feels true, it actually isn't. I am living proof that you CAN get another high paying tech job in your city. And I was over-specialized and long in the tooth to boot. Better things await you.

"I doubt there is any need to give up your US citizenship (unless you want to) - is that a serious question?"

No, that wasn't a serious question... It does torque me off big-time, though, that HPE does the "blackball" thing, then turns around and immediately afterwards, whines and cries to the politicians and regulators, that they need more H-1Bs, since they just can NOT find any qualified native workers!

HPE and HPI are now completely separate companies, so I am sure you can be hired by HPI. There was a no poaching agreement, but that expired a year after the split (or earlier).

Not sure about WFR in US and employ in India, but I expect it would be possible. Even if they could track you are the same person (doubtful), the way I understand it more functions are moving to India so they probably want to employ there. Salary might be much lower though and I would have thought that in e.g. Bangalore you could have a pick of many more attractive companies to work for. I doubt there is any need to give up your US citizenship (unless you want to) - is that a serious question?

"In many cases, they will be stupid enough to hire you, as no one under the age of 40 wants to work there, and they are equally set in the past and happy with your lack of innovation and contributions."

I hope you get run over by a bus.

If you have no skills, can’t interview for a real job, terrible with money and still broke despite 20 years of making good money, and you are afraid of change, the “good” news is you can work at HPI.

In many cases, they will be stupid enough to hire you, as no one under the age of 40 wants to work there, and they are equally set in the past and happy with your lack of innovation and contributions.

Finally, something I know....

Yes, if you are "retired" from HPE (you are only not allowed to rehire if your age/years make you eligible for retirement, at that point you are marked as retired). You can go to HPI and a friend of mine kept his seniority and badge number. He was pre split HP and went to HPE, now gainfully employed at HPI. Best of luck.

What I want to know is, this HPE blackball thing... If I renounce my USA citizenship and move to India, can I then be re-hired by HPE? Or would I need to change my name as well?

by | Post ID:

Yes, if you are WFRd from HPE you can go to HPI and DXC

by | Post ID:

I believe that you can. When companies do separation agreements they often limit the ability of the separate entities from poaching from each other (soliciting current employees). If you are wfr'd then you are no longer an employee of HPE so other spin offs should be able to hire you.

I don't know about this particular situation, but I know quite a few people that got WFR from HPI and got hired at HPE.
