Year End Review

“Exceeds expectations” and ranked as meets expectations due to supervisor hiding behind “managements” limited quota. Time to start looking elesewhere as the supervisor and the pay for performance system are a total joke!

The company is not hugely over staffed when you think about the fact that CHK has to drill 2.5 wells to get the same production as our peer group. Or the fact that CHK has a highly complex operating model. Due to the fact that there are zero standards across BU’s. When is the CHK EC going to stop comparing CHK to EOG? CHK will never ever be an EOG. CHK doesn’t have the rock!

98% of employees aren’t ranked as meet expectations. However, not enough are recognized as “above”. If CHK wants to have fewer employees they just need to wait until April. They’ll be leaving in their own. The sad part the ones leaving will be the ones they would want to keep.

The company is hugely overstaffed, a lot of which "Don't meet expectations" but end up getting meets expectations rating every year for the sake of "team harmony". It makes you wonder what's the point of a rating system if you are going to rate 98% of employees as "meets expectations"? You want to reduce spending? Layoff all the deadwood and extra staff that are not needed and use a small percentage of the saved money to give a big pay bump to the talented, hard-working employees who deserve it.

Not all supervisors rate "meets" to "hide". Some do it because employees actually meet their requirements and didn't do anything extra to justify "exceeds". Maybe they're actually following the guidelines and you're just mad that the bonus you probably expected may not be as high as you think it should be. Get over yourself. Not everyone is a koolaide junkie. Some just want to keep their jobs without bending their morals to do it. The company's got goals to reduce spending. Why are you expecting a bonus anyway? You probably expect a 5% raise too. Maybe you should find another job that guarantees that. Wait. It doesn't exist!

If you didn't get at least meets you better start looking.

Looks like that Senn Delaney reprogramming has been fruitful for the executive team. I'm impressed that they've actually managed to convince individual contributors that they're the real problem here. Your managers put a 3 year plan in place to not allow advancement and only offer sub-standard raises, but that realization that you're getting screwed over is equated to victim behavior. Amazing. Imagine what they could accomplish with shock therapy.

Victim behavior

Lower your expectations and you will never be let down again.

Wrong attitude: "I expect the year end review to be a fair process in which hard work will be recognized with a promotion and a raise."

Correct attitude: "I expect management to f--- up the performance review again this year. The backstabbers and brown-nosers will be rewarded while the working stiff will be...stiffed again"

by | Post ID:

Maybe you all should actually be above expectations and then get an above expectations like me and quit being piles!!!! Chk is the best!!! P--py heads!!!

Hey Billy boy! Myself and a couple of other CHKers left a while back and now work for the competition. Getting paid more than my old CHK job with half the BS from $$holes like you. Yes we come here to watch your dumpster fire burn because at one time we actually cared about your company. Good riddance!

Way to go Bill! You told everyone! You are the king!

"you'll pay off some bills, add a couple fun Apple products, go to a few nice dinners."

Hey everyone look at how much better of a person this guy is. You're all a bunch of consumerist sheeple and this guy has ascended beyond the realm inhabited by us mere mortals. Give up now and accept that you'll never achieve the level of enlightenment that comes from riding executive coattails and forfeiting your personal life for betterment of your superiors. Because that's the real problem -- you're all lazy. Clearly the issue isn't that your boss is lying to your face. No, no, that would never happen.

I would bet my bitcoin fortune that you and any others who frequent this site who are so unhappy don't "start looking" until after April or whenever the bonus' (no matter how much) are issued.

At that point my guess is like every other person who complains and rarely acts that you'll pay off some bills, add a couple fun Apple products, go to a few nice dinners then really start crying about management and how unfair life is around late July or August when the comments really start to tick up on here again.

This cycle will continue to repeat itself and you won't leave because everyone who posts here loves to see if their comments get a rise but are too scared to actually change their career in the chance that a new employer might not pay them a Chesapeake range salary to surf the web and text their friends all day.

Gah the quality of food at Wildcat is terrible. The fitness center showers need better water pressure. My bonus isn't high enough.....Meanwhile at a small oil and gas outfit downtown a homeless guy just pinched one off in the only elevator with access to their floor.

Reviews aren't fair. :(

It’s not about performance, it’s about popularity. I know exactly what goes on behind the PA ratings, because I have been there and done that. You are not quite in the inner circle. You might get there and than again probably not. The ratings and compensation decisions are all very subjective. Management can justify anything thing they want to justify. If they are telling you that you almost made it, it is only because they do not have the professional courage to tell you why you were not given a higher rating.

by | Post ID:

Of course there are quotas. The bell curve creates quotas.

by | Post ID:

Sounds like you have a dishonest and weak manager. There are no quotas. But a manager does have to justify and prove an exceeds rating. So a lot of managers won’t do the work and advocate for you for the higher rating. Put blame where blame is due.

by | Post ID:

Same here was told the past two years that I deserved above expectations, but could not recieve due to quota. Must be a quota on below expectations too.....mgr will not give the ones deserving of below expectations if life depended on it. Looking now for new job, going to take what I get And walk. I will hopefully land at a company that understands pay for performance. Not an Oklahoma native either so it does not make me tremble to land a job South of the Red River.
