Ombuds complaints

Anyone over 50 and who is on the pension is being targeted. They are either being let go or made so uncomfortable to try and force them out. Why are there not numerous ombuds complaints about this. Everyone over 50 should file one asap!

I'm not against this idea, but what exactly would this serve? If I'm not mistaken Ombudsman have no authority, they are just an intermediary? This is an honest question. I'm nearing 50, and would like to look into any and every option.

This is not a joke I was on OMLP a few years ago. I got another job with another company about 4 months ago when I went to HR to tell them I was leaving they gave me a 15% raise and promoted me to be a manager of super technical engineering team. I am an industrial engineer I don't even know what half my guys do so then when I said that I wanted to quit again about a week ago they gave me another raise when I asked why they would do that they would say because the OMLP retention rate is so low it's costing the business money so they can't let us walk and will give us whatever we want so. Congrats to all you old people us young people who were in the program where I learned nothing basically I make as much money as we want i guess.

People over 40 are a protected class and it's obvious many of these actions are age discriminatory. It's hard to prove in court, of course. If you are being replaced by people who have less experience and are younger, I believe you are still able to submit a complaint to the EEOC even after signing the waiver required to get the full severance pay. But I'm not sure you can be part of a lawsuit or receive any economic compensation.

Good advice. I am older than 55...is GE less likely to lay me off now or do I have an even bigger target on my back? I look much younger but they have my HR record and know my age.

This is not new at GE. 50-55 can be a very rough ride especially if you have high service and have not made EB. You are a target. Stay relevant. Demonstrate your worth. Volunteer for initiatives that are important and will make your boss look good. Stay visible in a good way. Look for assignments on high profile programs. Without the above you will be in the bullseye until you are at least 55 yrs old and have 25 yrs of service. Good luck to all who are surviving.

Sorry but GE IS targeting older employees and hiding behind clever excuses. Experienced older knowledge workers cost more but contribute much more. GE wants cheaper, younger and mediocre workers. Those less talented will work for less. People should contact the media and employment to get the message out there. If it's made public, GE may think twice about targeting older workers.

When you try and reach out to HR to understand why you were let go, they hide. They will leave a VM and ALWAYS take the side of management. There is no conversation and the inexperienced managers are told to give the company line and say no more. It is the most heartless place I have ever worked. In hindsight, getting let go from GE was a blessing.

GE is not targeting older employees. At least not on purpose. Currently they are focused on the groups that don't fit into the strategy, duplicate work and over-abundance of middle management. Starting next year more of same but adding focus on "location strategy". I am an older employee and i have to come to grips with technology changes making my skills less desirable compared to younger employees that make less. Going forward older employees can apply for these roles equally but will probably not want to take the pay cut.

EEOC is the agency for complaining about age discrimination. If several people sign in a single complain, it is much more effective as opposed to a single individual.

Ombuds complaints are not taking seriously at all in this company as well as HR complaints. Those complaints are handled with unprofessional and non-confidential way. The management will cover up their wrong doing with lies and find a way to blame the individual's performance or skills. if you are already out of job, I recommend starting class action law suit based on age discrimination. You can go to any lawyer who specialized on employment law and they will take care of the rest for you without paying anything up front.

Difficult to prove someone in management is a vegetable as they never make a decision and always incoherent.

by | Post ID:

Difficult to prove unless you have tangible facts let's say harassment. Works great this days

by | Post ID:

If Ombuds can't help, then what is best approach? This is a targeted assault on the older workers of GE. Maybe there is a law firm out there willing to take on an age discrimination lawsuit. I'm open to suggestions....never seen anything like this and I've worked at several large corporations.

If you're a vegetable you have no chance unless you go into management.

The P and LP bands are the easiest to get rid. They are not in a protected group. Omnibuds cannot help unless there is a very specific cause.

If you're nearing 50 then you need to look at getting a job with Kmart ideally in something where you don't need to think.
