Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Installers laid off because DIRECTV is a failure .

I like how T lays off 700 installers but no one states the obvious, DIRECTV is a failure. All we hear about is how it's the future of T, but they're letting all these guys go. There's an obvious lack of interest for the service. DTV Now will fail as well due to its association with DTV premium. The $1000 bonuses are given for 2 reasons, a tax write off and to ease the pain of future lay offs.

Direct Tv isn't a failure....AT&T is the sinking ship 🛳

Yep. It started off with MasTech contract workers in vans with AT&T wraps. At least they had "some" accountability. Now I see more and more vans and beat up trucks with a wrinkled up magnetic signs on the driver door (they can't seem afford two signs) saying "Authorized AT&T Installer" Without exception their vehicle is trash and the "tech" reeks of cigs by 7:30 in the morning. I know this because I fuel at the same place as some as these fine representatives of AT&T in the morning. I would not want some guy in a 25 year old Ford Ranger pickup with 1/2" ratchet straps holding a 20' ladder into my house. Maybe the the C-suites see this as a viable path to profitability. I don't know. Maybe I'm being to critical.

DTV was fine until AT&T got their hands on them. Then it went downhill quickly.

The dish service is dead. Reps have bloated numbers to keep their jobs. Quite a bit of sales are fraudulently set up just to impress their bosses. There's a 30% install rate. I bet Cox or Comcast has quite a higher install rate. They hired all these installers expecting success and are now realizing DTV's a failure. They'll just cut installs down to contractors so they only pay for what gets installed.

I would say was to get the techs off the books. Give it to the contractors and let them do it. The savings is huge. It's like off shoring. But the contractors don't eat up all the money for insurance and stuff like that.

DTV is still putting out several dishes a day. Yes they are going down. But the market is in the areas with crappy cell service, lots of locations are miles from anything, other areas have no fiber optics yet and a lot of people prefer the dish over anything.

Well the dish be gone someday. Sure it will. But I guarantee you DTV service will pay back the purchase price before it is gone as we know it.

And yes the bonus is a political move of a company that literally flounders in money for the moment because people buy their products because there is no competition in the areas they server to speak of.
