Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Grow a pair

Since my previous post was removed, just wanted to let y’all know I earned my bonus, I’m keeping it and rewarding performance is good management practice. Frankly if you think high and low performers should be compensated equally and low performers should never be let go, you don’t belong in the private sector. If you’re receiving a bonus, congrats you’re considered valuable to the company’s success and if you’re let go, you need to look into retooling and get into a field that is actually in demand (unlike landlines)

You perform or not you're nothing for At&t. I went to summit 2 years in a row and was constantly on top, I did everything they asked me to do. One day I was called into the office and was let go ha! After 10 plus years! Explain me that one then? Don't drink the Kool Aid people.

I never met a high performer at AT&T who wasn't lazy and didn't spend all their time kissing butt.

I was with Directv for 19 years. The last 7 years i received nothing but exceptional performance reviews. AT&T buys us and i got surplused. I say the writing on the wall as soon as the ink was dry on the merger. AT&T has a horrible culture. Every 6 months your waiting to see if your departments number is called. What a joke. Good riddance!!!

Come talk to me when your whole organization gets cut and the tech jobs get sent to tech m. I'd assume they were all low performers

Management employees are laid off by performance appraisal which is in 4 or 5 categories, then NCS.

Occupational employees are laid off by NCS in most positions, and in others, an appraisal of need improvement or lower, then NCS.

I noticed HP, a non-union company laid off by seniority a while ago. The reason is quite simple - to make downloadbesttorrentblog.rus lawsuit-proof.

Everyone knows, if you lay off a senior employee who is two years away from a service pension, that the company is going to get a lawsuit, whether it is merited or not.

"Are you talking about the 1k bonus? That wasn’t earned in fact it had nothing to do with your performance or the tax bill it was negotianted months ago by the union."

That might be fake news. I saw that story on Daily Beast. However, according to CNBC, the bonus is in addition to any other bonuses already agreed to, such as signing bonuses to renew a contract. I don't think Stephenson is that stupid as to represent signing bonuses as a bonus associated with the Trump tax cuts.

It has everything to do with AGE, NCS date, Salary and wether your boss likes you. That part is true.

The 2020 training is ok for softskills only. For technical certs with employable skills---your not going to get the time to "GO TO SCHOOL" unless your boss likes you and let's you focus on said schooling. Then your boss can cover your 6.

"imagine writing up a resume and putting in all of the company centric 2020 product training" That dog won't hunt. I was told that by a recruiter who contacted me.

i've known many people here that drank the kool aid and still got cut over the years

So Randy brings $78,000 of value to the company every single day of the year? If you have details on how he does that I would be interested.

Seems like you’re trying to convince yourself more than anyone else. Good luck.

Look you can believe it was not performance related but at the end of the day every business decision is supply and demand. As you get older and your salary increases, it’s up to you to continually learn and ensure you bring more to the table than your salary if you want them to keep you. Age discrimination argument is bs, I worked in management before this and the truth is NO EMPLOYERS KEEP EMPLOYEES WHOSE COMPENSATION IS GREATER THAN THE ACTUAL DOLLAR VALUE THEY BRING TO THE TABLE. So every time you get a salary increase, you can’t become complacent you need to step up your performance accordingly or eventually employer will let you go. You think you should keep getting paid more forever doing the same exact responsibilities? Be real with yourself and if you feel your situation is too much of a good deal then the bean counters will find you. It’s a delicate balance and there’s enough older employees still here, including myself, you can’t make blanket statements like it’s the union, discrimination etc life and being private sector employee is just tough.

Are you talking about the 1k bonus? That wasn’t earned in fact it had nothing to do with your performance or the tax bill it was negotianted months ago by the union. So if anyone is feeling hesitant or bad about it with jobs being cut left and right know that it’s ok to take the money. Op isn’t special but don’t tell him that.

2020 analysis is so accurate. Sad but true.

by | Post ID:

- sorry, but a lot of these cuts were not made for either performance reasons or lack of skills

The 2020 training was nothing more than a ruse to interrupt your time and find a reason for you to fail some metric. The real tech training was given to younger workers in the matrix programs who had more time to do the training and contributed less to the daily operations of the company. It has been planned for several years, and as the older people get closer to pensions they are getting cut loose and filled in by the younger millennials and\or off-shored.

(Unlike landlines?) You might want to retool your thought process. Or maybe, stop lying! Cord cutting has upper management in panic mode. Maybe, Bill Daley is available again, for a semi cheap price?

The common fallacy is that people are not taking care of their careers. In some cases, surely the case. For the many, not the case at all.

The companies 2020 plan, is complete BS! Training is next to worthless.

Tell me, the team leaders for both Q and T-Space both got 60 day letters, do you really believe they are not prepared for the future?

Flat out, management employees are laid off with some formula, that has little to do with training and everything to do with Age, NCS and salary.
