Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Corporate Layoff Timing?

When do people expect this to hit? I'm guessing next week or the week after. Probably a Wed. or Thurs.

What do you all think?

EE rating .... people elaborate more. This is prep for layoff? If you r rated low, u r out the door? What a mess this is..

I am shocked! I better get some more paperclips before the whole company folds!

If a person is 64 or 65 and gets laid off..... He/she could wait the 2-3 years for litigation....Most likely that person would not need to get another job....

"They better be careful if they layoff the older people. Could be an Age Discrimination Law Suit in the mist"

Answer - Staples Corporate knows damn well that it would take a person 2-3 years of litigation to just get it through the legal system for anyone that would consider an age discrimination lawsuit. They plays the odds. If you look at this company's history, they are known for moving out the older work force. They just continue to get away with it.

Managers "rating" employees under direction from the top. Does not matter how good you are, high paid - older workers are getting the boot.

IT Individual contributors reading this: I'm sure you don't need to be told this, but...use this time to sharpen your skills, resumes, and linkedIn profiles. You are very likely worth much more than the toxic group-think at the company is making you feel that you are worth. There is a better job out there for you: just go find it.

I was laid off and found a much better gig (in all ways --but mainly, because I was no longer in the culture that made me feel like sh-- every day). While I was upset when it happened, I am really thankful at this point that it came sooner than later.

I slept like a baby last night, of course I was smart enough to leave this crap hole company 2 years ago.

restructuring several compensation plans.

ha ha ha.

predictable but many will be surprised anyway.

by | Post ID:

Expect consolidation in Supply Chain.

by | Post ID:

by | Post ID:

Sounds like you guys already are aware but just adding that i also got confirmation from a trusted source that layoffs will be announced by the end of this month. Here we go again...

by | Post ID:

Major SAL layoff coming next week. Also, they are restructuring several compensation plans. There are other layoffs coming as well.

by | Post ID:

I agree - major restructuring this month. Probably over the next two week. No one is sleeping at night.

HAHA! love it!

what about the account consultant teams?

Troll? Are you suggesting that retail has a bright future?

Troll much?

“No one expects any growth from Retail. That's why there are no growth goals associated with Retail. Profitability is the only goal. Conversion is way up and costs are down so profitability is up.

SBA is growing at a decent clip. More work to do there, but we're close to the corporate goals there too.

Staples.com is the clear weak link at the moment. With FM gone we can hopefully improve the website to the point where customers don't want to smash their keyboard every time they visit.”

Once again, shrinking and disappearing is not success. This “profit” you speak of is not benefiting anyone or anything other than a few opportunists. “Profitable” can take so many forms. I can be profitable running a lemonade stand; that doesn’t mean I’ve achieved any sort of glory in business.

Reinvention and adaptation is one thing, but shrinking and disappearing is just plain failure. Staples has been shrinking and disappearing for many years now.

“The metrics are profitability in retail and profitability and sales growth in NAD. All of those are trending in a positive direction. Hence the bonus payout.”

If the only way to be profitable is to shrink (layoffs/cutbacks/closings), then that’s not growth.

HAHAHA! CLUELESS POST!

by | Post ID:

"We're trending toward getting our full bonus based on our metrics."

Metrics? Closing stores, laying people off, not hitting sales numbers, selling off the business merits a bonus? So failure is the new success at Staples. Amazing. You all deserve jobs in government. What a joke.

by | Post ID:

They do at the Corporate level. We're trending toward getting our full bonus based on our metrics.

by | Post ID:

Staples gives bonuses? Staples is getting a bonus from Trump. Maybe they will give all bonuses? Happy New Year

by | Post ID:

Need to hang on until Feb 3rd to get the bonus.

by | Post ID:

If they won't cut your job next week or the week after, they might cut it in 3 months or a year. Nobody is safe, even top performers can get the axe. Do not waste your energy and talent in this company, focus on finding another job and leave that toxic place behind.

by | Post ID:

Which of the three business will be sold first and who are potential buyers?

by | Post ID:

More than retail. Staples business advantage will see huge cuts. Profits are not there anymore. Amazon and Walmart continues to eat their lunch. The glow is gone and dimming fast.

by | Post ID:

Bloodbath after Christmas, as always. From what I'm reading and hearing, 2018 is going to make 2017 look like the good old days.

I really am starting to think this is the end of the road for retail in general. Not all at once of course, but the downhill slide will not end, just keep going until there's nothing left.
