Many people working in IT (at least software development, test, etc. in wireless) are facing job security issues. Ever since Nokia bought out Alcatel-Lucent, many at Alcatel-Lucent have also been worried regard their jobs. ATT, Verizon, Intel is also in the same boat. Most of 5G is being developed outside of USA. H1B visa's are still being handed out by big corps and the government. Then those H1B's get converted to green cards. So those jobs that we once knew as secure are no long secure. It's a challenging environment for all those working in the IT in USA. Chinese and Indian software developers are growing at a fast pace. Many companies are just outsourcing work directly to China/India. There are so many of them that they work 24/7 at 1/5 (or now 1/4th) the going USA rate. Even with the tax reform by Trump, those jobs will not come back. Any job that can be done using a computer will not come back to USA (like software development) since any one who can program can write some code (it may not be as good as an experienced person but they can write it up and meet the deadline - until the corp realizes the code has bugs and then they need to apologize via the news media for screwing up).
I don't think USA will ever be what we once use to be. Chinese employees in China are getting smarter and smarter after we gave away all our technology to them for free (and still training them for free). Just look at Huawei. It eats up the most market share in wireless (Huawei $60 Billion) v. Nokia/Ericssons ($10-12 Billion). Huawei has the market share of the world minus USA, and Nokia/Ericsson major market share is USA.
