Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Current Political Factor and protectionist "mood" of this country need to be considered

Remember this is all about a "foreign" hostile takover by a company who is known to quash innovation .This is no American company by any means and i think there is a lot of shareholders who might "be damned" to see Qualcomm, a home grown American success tech story, be taken down by yet another Chinese company regardless of a 70 dollar offer or not.The takeover has far greater negative consequences for R and D, innovation etc in the future.

People are tired of jobs being shipped overseas to Asia, American companies being bought out by Chinese companies .... There is negative sentiment over this whole topic right now in the USA

Moreover regulators will really frown on this whole deal and will also be influenced by this "protectionist mood"

Keep American companies in America!!!!!

Octane has made a deal with POTUS and nothing will break it.

by | Post ID:

Octane doesn't care if Q is an American company ; he will do whatever it takes with it to make money. This is a lesson of capitalism from a Chinese descent.

Mexico Exported More Cars Than Ever to the US Last Year

Regardless of President Trump's threats to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Mexican auto industry exported a record number of cars and light trucks to the United States in 2017. Year over year, Mexican exports rose 9.4% to more than 2.33 million light vehicles.

WHAT??? You actually blame the government for the choices the CONSUMERS have made for many decades?? And then you call others ignorant??

The choice to buy American products was there in abundance, but consumers have made a clear choice to buy cheaper (or let‘s face it, in some cases also better) foreign-made products. What was the government supposed to do? Take the decision out of the people‘s hands by artificially inflating the prices of foreign goods? Because the people are too stupid to make a decision that is beneficial to them, the government has to step in? Wow, you are one of those big-government kind of guys who want the government to make choices for the people against what they would do.

Consumers had the choice, and they chose the cheaper products, so the choices diminished. But they are still there. You say there is no choice? You say we can only buy products made in China? Wow, you are the worst kind of liar, because you are lying to yourself. You can still buy clothes made in the US for example, if you really want to. So do you? DO YOU?!? Of course not, because they are significantly more expensive. You are waiting for the government to increase the prices on clothes from Bangladesh to force you to buy American clothes. Because you need the government to be a mother to you and to have the idealism in reality that you only have in words, not in deeds.

When you say there is no choice to buy American products, you are lying to yourself to justify your bargain-hunting buying habits that trump your idealism. The American people had a choice. They still have a choice. They make that choice every day: By buying cheaper foreign-made products. And so do you. Don‘t call other people ignorant for recognizing that your idealism is only skin deep, that you expect others to force you to do what you think is right.

But hey, let‘s just say others who don‘t agree with you are anti-American. You don‘t have any arguments, so let‘s just use that. I wonder sometimes if people like you use that all the time. Your wife complains to you that you didn’t do the groceries. Your answer: „You are obviously anti-American! No use arguing with people like you!“ You are buying foreign-made products when you believe that it is wrong and when you have a choice to buy American products. Then you call OTHER people anti-American just for recognizing a problem that you are happily blind to. You are such a joke. An unfunny one though.

To the other post.I would personally pay more for goods designed, manufactured and sold in the USA if it were possible and i am sure a lot of people would as well. Your comments are ridiculous and ignorant .We are where we are because of the governtment not stepping in for decades .We are forced to buy eveything "made in China" as there is no choice if you want the product.

also you are wrong .People do know Qualcomm is an American company.

You obviously are anti American so one cant go very far arguing with your kind.

Tan sure looked like Trump's best friend on TV.

I doubt the American story will save Q.

by | Post ID:

First of all, institutional shareholders don‘t care if an American company stays American or not. And they will eventually decide Q‘s fate.

Second, the general populace doesn‘t even know that Qualcomm is an American company. Until two years ago, the vast majority of Americans had not even heard of Qualcomm.

And do you really expect people to care who buy Korean or at least made-in-China smartphones, wear made-in-Bangladesh clothes, and so on? Before you answer, turn over your keyboard and tell me where it was made. In China? And the clothes you are currently wearing? People are tired of jobs being shipped overseas? It is those people who actually ship those jobs overseas! People like you! So stop your whining. We live in an international world, and you happily profit off that fact on a daily basis.

by | Post ID:

Americans are tired of jobs being shipped overseas but not tired of products being shipped overseas. Out of curiosity, how large a portion of its profits does Q make from sales in foreign countries?

Hypocrisy at its best.

by | Post ID:

Hello genius. Broadcom could buy Qualcomm as an American company and then move to China or Taiwan once the transaction is complete. I am more concerned about our technology falling into nefarious hands. Is this scenario possible?

Are you a chineese stinker?

BRCM(Avago) went from 2 HQs down to one in US. It is now an "American" company.
