H1 B visas in tech companies

As long as more than 50 percent or more grad ( MS and PhD) students in US universities in STEM subjects are international ( read Indian and Chinese), US tech companies will have to depend on H1 B visas. There is no other choice, whether you like it or not

What's the bug deal?, Intel was lots of Eastern Europens, most of our Aerospace/Rocket was German, much of our nuclear program was Jewish European. It seems the color of people has changed? Just pure racism. Jews/1st gen basicly controlled the clothing biz in NYC. Isarelis in the 70s the cab buz in NYC

Nothing new here

Silicon Valley went all in for Hillary. Trump doesn't care what they think or want. He is in full re-election mode and will do anything/everything to keep the economic angst vote.

I am not from India or China or one of these high population countries. I went through the whole PhD thing etc. here is what I saw. For these stem students coming from third world countries the $18k/year stipends is already a huge step up in pay compared to what they could have gotten where they came from. It also gives them an opportunity to plug into us tech economy eventually. good for them improving their lot. There is nothing wrong there...Regarding the us stem grad it does not make sense to graduate with say $20k in college debt and go into a PhD program and make $18k per year for 5+ years on a program which may/maynot work while alternatively could get a job and normal life making $60k + per year. I bet if the PhD stipends were doubled or tripled a lot more stem phds will be from us. Anyway I don’t think h1b abuse is caused by foreign phds. These are small in number. The volume/abuse is at the lower degree levels. A sweeping policy change is required to address the issue. But I bet nothing will get done. Too much $$ is being made by the big shots with the existing setup and they will make sure it stays that way. By the way I love Indians and Chinese. I am not a racist. I can not imagine life without general tso chicken. You can take my gun away. But don’t even think about my tikka massala. 🤨

The author is right, if you look at the ranks of the students coming out of the PhD programs that fit the STEM model. You will find that most are not students that are from America. That is a hard fact for the call for American students to step up and get the degrees beyond there B.S.

b---s---. Nobody who has an affinity for STEM goes „Oh I have no future in this field, so I will study a liberal arts major instead!“

Everyone knows that once you finish yor computer science degree, you get hired with a decent salary. Period. The whole „I can‘t get a job because of foreigners and URMs“ nonsense is a myth with zero facts behind it. The only unemployed computer science majors are people who insist on living in the farming community of Podunkton, AL.

The problem is simply that there are not enough Americans who are interested in STEM, and funny enough, you can blame the people for that who keep blaming foreigners for the nation‘s woes, because it‘s those people who refuse to invest money into our country‘s education system.

Pure gold

If the domestic students actually saw a future in STEM, don't you think there would be a smaller percentage of international students?

With the push for URM and Female employees, why would anyone in the US pursue a STEM career unless you were in the aforementioned group? Tech employers, like Intel, don't want quality employees, they want cheap and politically correct.
