Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Is this board a mirror of current slb work environment?

I would really want to know how is atmosphere in slb these days!

Apparently lots of employees abuse.

I would like to be corrected if I am wrong.

With the correct attitude and maneuvers. Even in this chaotic work atmosphere a person with know how. can climb and evantually retire in a villa in the Bahamas.

It's much much much worse.

training.hell yea to training combined with experience and name brand. adds dividend to your bottom line! i let schlumberger become my stepping stone.

atmosphere. hell. gossip, backbiting, secrecy to the max. take it or leave it kind of attitude. you almost become toxic or dying to breathe on most days

what you going to choose is up to you.

Because this company is indeed messed up.

I believe you got offered the North American Mobile contract. I don't know much about this one.

My advice would be to read very carefully the contract terms to see what you are exactly entitled to and ask the recruiter if you have any question.

Check also what you are exactly going to do in the sales position, I believe Slb recuiters sometimes hire more than the company can chew. They do this because there are various incentives (and by this I mean financial bonuses) to do so. When I was hired I was sent here and there with not much to do or learn for a year or so at first.

The interviewer kept asking questions on insubordination, behavior in office, bad day with boss, bad day with customer,...

And now I am seeing this board too....

What type of contract do you have? If it is an international contract once again be warned that the money they promise will not necessarily find its way to your bank account. You may also have no pension plan included.

As said before the training they promise is usually good but be also warned that Slb will only give you the training THEY want you to have. Any personal input on your career path will be usually discarded if it does not fit their "plan".

Just out of curiosity, for which "product line" they said you would work for? Because product lines are not all born equal despite the corporate motto of "One Schlumberger".

I have offer from slb and a non o&g company, slb pay looks better and lots of training promised. What is OFC?

not sure which one to pick, I visited slb office for interview twice, I could not see any happy face though!

The atmosphere s---s and yes this board is a fairly accurate mirror of Slb environment.

I have been working for them for several years now and honestly I have never seen a place so mismanaged, ever.

If you are still considering joining this company, be aware that:

-Slb will not always pay what they owe you at the end of the month, especially if you have an international contract (those contracts usually have very little legal framework so basically you will have a hard time complaining about that)

-managers will b---s--- you a lot to get what they need from you at time T, then forget about you right after that. Loyalty will get you nowhere

On a positive note, you do get some fairly good training, but that is really all there is to say.

Out of all my colleagues that started working for Slb at about the same time as me, I guess I could say that I am one of the last "survivors" but believe me I am not proud of this at all.

Spending more than 3 years in this company would be an absolute waste of time now.
