Town hall next week. Bally has finally won. They never could handle the fact that we had a nice building. Now it's for sale and we're all done. At least we don't have to wonder anymore.

Job market in chicago is very good - just leave and move on. SG always was a garbage company, even prior to the M&A. the slow burn down of the merged companies post M&A was obvious. 9 billion in debt and only schurm's divsion making any real money. not hard to see the problem and inevitable outcome.

Well of course lay offs are coming! Is anyone really surprised? Let’s be honest, it has been yearly lay offs since all the mergers began. Plus reviews/raises are around the corner, so the need to get rid of people, so that the execs can get more money. All the employees who do the work will get nothing and the execs will get millions. Our exec management doesn’t care if this company makes it or not, they just play smoke and mirror games with submissions so that numbers stay good for Wall st. They say they care about quality issues, but they slam out dirty software just to make dates. So clearly they don’t care about quality, they care about their bonuses of which they have earned on the back of low paid, educated, talented employees who will never see decent compensation at this vile company. The board hired a non gaming experienced CEO in the middle of s-xual corruption charges and open legal cases?! Anyone else see the issue there? So what would be incentive for a company to hire this type of man? Yes, that is it....they picked this s-xual predator up dirt cheap in terms of CEO pay, and he will be their yes man because after all he doesn’t know anything about software, and when it’s all said and done and the company is in the toilet, he will be their scapegoat. But it works for all of them because they all get personally rich! That’s the goal of SG under its current board, make them even richer and has nothing at all to do with producing innovative or quality products. Shocked to think any left still believe there is anything decent going on or that it will ever improve. Jump ship because it is sinking!!!
Massive round of layoffs happening Wednesday morning. Upper management from other locations are all here. Building sale/move info at town hall later that day.

This place is a joke! They hire people with entry level low pay and then the people who have seniority feels challenged by new hires and doesn’t put an effort to train correctly! This goes on in some departments and people leave. Yet where is “HR”?
Then wanting to change the benefits on us? It is better for everyone to seek employment somewhere else... what WMS was before isn’t scientific gaming... we were something at WMS but after being bought by two, this place has gone down...

Weekly layoff and having everyone worry about their jobs is not a healthy work environment.
We all knew that after selling all the smaller buildings that eventually Wms would come to an end. The building was holding by a thread.. scientific games has its corporate building in Reno so would be a good move for them to just shut down the Chicago location
But it is not fair how they just have multiple layoff over and over. Good thing I left before all this happened.

Sell the old buildings to ComEd, and make the tower million dollar condos.
The perception of the company by the Chicago employees for the past couple years has been that the company doesn't really care to retain or employ new talent in Chicago. Whether or not the higher-ups at the company actually feel this way, it doesn't really matter at this point, because that's the way it is. This is largely based on the recent benefits-nafu and the cutting of corners at every possible opportunity. Combined with nearly zero promotions recently, opening req's for only entry level'ish positions at very low salaries, and extremely anemic annual raises. You can only con recent engineering grads into working for 50k (a pittance) per year in Chicago for so long. As soon as they get a year or two of experience under their belt, they'll be heading quickly for the door, for an easy 50%-100% salary bump at nearly any other firm downtown. Relocating the facility to downtown will only reduce the "friction" for an employee to jump ship, as any employee in that situation could literally find a better paying job across the street -- if not in the same high-rise building even. The job market in Chicago right now is at hot as I've ever seen.
Relocating will also probably cause more attrition. Consider the folks who live in the northern suburbs who (only a few years ago) were accustomed to a short commute to the Waukegan office. Then when SciGames shut down that office, they moved the employees to the Chicago office. This added a horrendous commute through the I-90/94 crap near OHare. Now imagine those folks being told they have to drive all the rest of the way into down-town and pay for down-town parking!
Of course, there will be "winners" too -- folks who live near a metra or CTA station or who live downtown already.
It should be interesting to watch what happens!

The last couple layoff rounds resulted in groups gathering in an auditorium on a Wednesday. Never accept a meeting invite on a Wednesday!

Where's the source of information that says the building is being or has been sold? In any case, my guess would be that it would be difficult to sell a premium office building for a good price in that particular neighborhood. Despite being within the city-limits, it doesn't have that great of public transportation options, plus few amenities within walking-distance.

Chicago is not being eliminated, just relocated to a more cost effective facility in the city. Some groups may lose some head count but not all groups.

Any more details? Sold and vacated instantly? I find this hard to believe as the Chicago location has a lot of moving parts and lots of projects in different stages of development. They are willing to just collapse WMS instantly?
Good, because everyone knows that all the talent is in Reno anyway, says everyone working in Reno. All other locations know Reno is full of a bunch of difficult to work with amateur hacks.
