Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Ok then

Our store yesterday let go 1 sr manager, and 4 department managers.....

I get that their had to be cuts, and for the most part I understood the decision between the department managers. The part that makes me scratch my head is how did our GM choose to promote the Ops manager to the assistant GM? He doesn’t hunt, fish and refuses to own a firearm. He barely had any club cards last year and can’t even talk to our customers about the products we sale. He’s a California guy who is only here to collect a paycheck.....

Our GM was perfectly fine with releasing our SR floor manager who lead by example, he would get on his hands and knees scrub base decks, dust and knew the product and had great customer service. Customers would ask for him when they came in, because they knew he would help them get the right product for whatever they needed. Not to mention that when he would challenge the team to get club cards he would make it fun and make it challenging because we would get one and he would get 3, if I remember correctly he had over 150 last year and already 10 or more this year. Outfitters are confused and upset.......... who knows maybe they will shut down our store, after all the building is for sale.

Who really cares anymore?!? This whole thread so far has been a bash Jesse and defend Andrew session. This store is a joke no matter who left. Half the store is ran by empty threat managers and drama filled rumors and catty outfitters. Not naming names but some of the managers who left and who are still here are all at fault for favoring in some way or were a horrible manager who spoke badly of other outfitters and was in a management role.

The store is a joke anyways, we are led by a lady who is only seen outside of her office to bark orders and a Human Resources person who is about as helpful as sloth and has the personality of a snake so we are all screwed as it is

Your grammar and writing style gives you away Jesse. It's pretty obvious that you are the author of the first post that started this thread.

Came to work today to find 8 department managers and one senior manager had been let go thursday. Some had worked for cabelas over a decade. Really the heart and soul of our store. All great folks who worked very hard. Sad day.

Just to clarify the California guy does like to fish...just ask him about his Marlin fishing trips 🤙🏼

This is jesse, and first I want to say that I totally disagree with the original post. The “California” guy” that is referenced in the post is an amazing manager. Yesterday when I left I left with no bitter feelings towards anyone. I was lucky to work with “California guy” he is smart and great at what he does. He was the right choice for the job. I’m not getting on here to argue with anyone that posts on here, that store is a rumor mill of something going everyday. The only reason I’m commenting on this is because I would NEVER say anything in that content towards “California Guy”. I’m gone no longer employed there, and I know some people like it and some don’t. But there is no reason to get on here and bash anyone.

We loved most of the department managers here such as the hunting and footwear managers we will miss you guys very much I’m sorry to say that the sr. Floor manager was unqualified and did not deserve the job that he had. He was not a “leader” and was not a good person overall. We will miss you “the young manager” “the tall manager” “the marketing girl” you’ll all be missed and we hope you move on to things that are bigger and better than this company.

I was one of those department managers that was let go yesterday and NO I wasn't close to retirement and I worked for Cabela's for 3 years. And NO I wasn't one of the high paying managers. In my opinion, what happened yesterday is that Bass Pro doesn't care about Cabela's or it's employees. Cabela's did not treat their employees like that, if a position closed they always had a job open for them if they wanted that position. Yesterday I was told that there would be positions posted by today-which there wasn't any yet, and we could apply for them then. Why couldn't they offer us these "positions" yesterday and if we didn't want them then we wouldn't have to accept. Cabela's did not do things this way. I believe in my opinion that Bass Pro is going to destroy the Cabela's and whoever works for them.

Also, as to them comments about the "California Guy", he is an outstanding manager. He has always been there if you needed help or answers, maybe he doesn't hunt, fish or own a firearm but he knows how to treat people with respect. I am gonna miss him dearly!!!! And I am gonna miss EVERYONE that I have worked with there.

That “California” guy is a great leader, who is always willing to help any outfitter no matter what. Not a manager who favored certain outfitters and would do favors for those certain outfitters. Not a manager who had an employee enter his CID information into the system early, before customers who had been waiting in line for several hours so he could get a trophy unit tag. That “California” guy was seen many times during the winter collecting carts in a blizzard after hours so that other outfitters didn’t have to. That “California” guy who has many years of expirence over the Senior Floor manager who was let go, and the “California” who has a prestigious college degree whereas the Senior Floor Manager who did not have any education further than high school. Also the outfitters are not confused to why he was let go, they are mostly relieved. Especially the females. Ok then?

Hey Jesse. We aren’t confused. We aren’t upset and we are glad you’re gone 😬

How close were they to receiving the retirement discount (60 years old and 15 years in service) that bar was set jst high enough that few will ever reach it

by | Post ID:

Guys and girls, they got rid of all the high paying and long tenured managers. Obviously, there is some exceptions to that in some buildings but for the most part that is who got their walking papers.

by | Post ID:

They got rid of all the people who worked hard and said things or asked questions and kept all the ones who didn't ask questions or even worked and called in. Ridiculous.
