Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

You know the Real Estate market is tough when...

the CFO who's house is assessed at $404,000 can't even sell it at $229,000.

I see that the ex CEO knocked $300,000 off his asking price. I can see why, everyone hates him in town and his tax bill is over $12,000 per year. My guess is that price is going to drop some more.

It's going to be a rough 2018.

...donated the $ to the fund for employees getting layed off...

Just another systemic problem with our society..everyone is always looking for a hand out. No one has any since of self responsibility.

Yeah the situation stinks, but as many have said before, this is business.

Ralph & his wife donated their house to their church. Now the church is trying to sell it. He should have sold it & donated the $ to the fund for employees getting layed off.

Millions in the bank+ no conscience= Cabela's E team

by | Post ID:

What about the people that walked away with Millions and are still living in that town. I don't think I could stay there. I'd feel too guilty.

by | Post ID:

The point wasn't that we going to take a hit on the house.

The point WAS that even when you cut the price in half

you still don't have any buyers.

Donate it for a homeless shelter -probably not zoned for that.

That CFO walked away from Cabela's with more than $20 million, I think he can afford to take a hit on the Sidney house. In fact I think he should donate it to someone or something.

Pretty sad when even the foreclosures which they try to sell at auction do not even sell.

Ralph can rot in hell!

Wow quite a few allegations in the previous post.

Taxes are high in this community specifically because of the current County Assessor. She is corrupt, bigoted, banging the County Attorney AND his assistant and has ALL valuations in the county forked up! ALL assessments should have been lower for the 2017 tax year and they were set to go DOWN. Sybil P. forked that up along with Mel K. It will get worse before it gets better. She doesn't know how to do mass appraising! With regard to people walking away from their houses, taxes still have to be paid. By the mortgage holder. Although, they may wait and pay them every three years.

With no silver bullet or large firm or several smaller firms to come in and absorb the displaced work force the drought could be pretty intense.

I am very concerned for those who chose or have no choice but to stay. These individuals will have to shoulder the burden of the debt load of the community.

The declining real estate values are going to really affect the towns budget in the near future. Hard to justify that assessed value now, even worse if places go to forclosure, and taxes aren’t paid.

Per the US census data it took roughly 30 years for Sidney population levels to recover after the munition plant closure. This could be a long dry spell.

Ralph Castner is a lying piece of sh--. Don't trust anything he says!

I would say most people are going to cut their losses and leave. Just paying the taxes to live in Sidney Nebraska will eat up all your severance pay. Do yourself a favor and move on,there are much better places to live and thrive. You don't know what you're missing.

by | Post ID:

Wait until the foreclosures start, with this current round of 'severance offers' the exodus will be massive.

There could possibly be a fair amount of individuals who will just walk away and cut their losses.

Haved lived there myself before I Was let go on one of the earlier staff reductions, I can first hand state that the taxes are incrementally much higher that most everywhere else.

My heart does go out to those good people who got caught in this catastrophe, and yet I have no pity on those who have helped it along.

The community was not to bad of a place to live, but towards the end when the stress began to ratchet up the social environment became almost unbearable, couple that with the hideous economic fallout, and it has been a recipe for disaster.

Good luck Sidney Nebraska I do hope the best for you in your future.

I can't believe you guys pay so much in taxes. There are beautiful places to live in the United States with a lot less tax. What do you guys have a bunch of crooks running that town? It just totally blows my mind.

Ohhh, it will drop a LOT more!
